The growing of wine in our region dates back to the Romans and peaked in the Middle Ages. Especially the Hageland and the valley of the Maas were known for their flourishing vineyards, but wine was also cultivated in other Flemish regions. Unfortunately, vineyards disappeared in the 16th century due to the colder climate.
Flemish viticulture has seen a remarkable rise in recent decades. In the spring of 2018, the establishment of this vineyard started. After a thorough soil analysis with the necessary advice, the much needed fertilisers were added and the poles and wires carefully placed.
To ensure optimal ventilation and maximum sunlight, a wide distance was kept between and within the rows. This approach ensures that the plants drie more quickly, which greatly reduces the risk of disease and speeds up grape ripening.
