The Gustave Bourgois Mountain Bike Route consists of 3 loops, which together account for 40 km. The route links up with MTB Ypres. The route starts at the sports hall in Beselare.
Gustave Bourgois
The name refers to Gustave Bourgois, a man who had a great love for sports in Zonnebeke. Gustave committed himself wholeheartedly to the village’s sporting club life. He was the driving force and devil-do’s advocate in cycling and football circles, was at the helm of politics for years, founded the sports association and reaped laurels as chairman: super sports council, youth sports municipality & sports club municipality of West Flanders.
He co-founded the cycling club “Eendracht maakt Macht”, which earned him the honorary title of Royal. Gustave was laureate of the trophy for sports merit. Gustave died in 1999, far too early….
The five rural municipalities
The mountain bike route takes a closer look at our five rural communes with the aim of presenting the varied landscape in all its facets. We start at the sports hall in Beselare, climb towards the church and follow the left towards Geluveld – Kruiseke.
